Ramit Sethi is a Stanford graduate and the New York Times best selling author of I Will Teach You To Be Rich, with a free blog by the same name. He was also a co-founder for PBWiki, a venture backed start-up. The guy knows his stuff.
Ramit’s book and blog are both focused on personal finance for people in their 20′s and early 30′s. There are two sides to personal finance, cutting costs and making more money. Unlike most authors or bloggers, Ramit Sethi covers both cutting costs and increasing revenue (he calls it the “CEO Model”) in a refreshing and practical way.
On cutting costs, Ramit doesn’t talk about frugality – there’s no advice on cutting coupons. Instead, he helps you strive for ”big wins” and automating your finances – simple things that are easy to implement and add up to a lot of money.
On making more money, Ramit is a big advocate of “freelance” businesses. The beauty behind his advice on this is the ultra-low start-up costs along with straight-forward tactical advice for immediate results rather than theory or vague tips.
Ramit Sethi also offers two products on his I Will Teach You to be Rich blog, Scrooge Strategy and Earn 1k. Both products come with a free trial that will wet your appetite for what you can expect with the full service.
The Scrooge Strategy is a course for saving money. It all started with a 30 day challenge that Ramit posted on his blog for people to save $1,000. Follow the link to read all of those tips, but realize that the Scrooge Strategy is much more than this. It includes one detailed, premium tip e-mailed to you each week. The absolute BEST advice that I’ve gotten from Scrooge Strategy is how to save money on eating out, and it has helped me cut my average monthly costs for eating out in half. My only complaint with Scrooge Strategy is that it is currently only offered as a monthly membership. I’d like to see an option to pay one-time with access to archives, etc. Maybe this will be available eventually.
Earn 1k is a quite elaborate course designed to get you making money on the side, and includes steps to identifying and qualifying business ideas, all the way through specific scripts for raising your prices. There is a TON of material here, and it’s available in video, audio, or transcript versions so I can access it any way I’d like. It also comes with great bonus material and worksheets to help you hold yourself accountable. My only complaint with the Earn 1k course is that you don’t get sessions directly with Ramit. IMO, this should be included with at least the premium version.
The price of these products is not cheap, but the VALUE that they provide makes them well worth it for me. I’ve read Ramit Sethi’s book, follow his blog, and am a member of both Scrooge Strategy and Earn 1k. If you can’t tell, I’m quite a fan of his because his advice is so easy to implement and it gets results. Ramit writes about a subject that is filled with scams, but he does it in a professional manner and does a great job tying his products to the overall brand. I HIGHLY recommend you at least check out his blog and if that interests you – get his book. As I mentioned, both Scrooge Strategy and Earn 1k come with a free trial (and no obligation), so I would also recommend you check them out as well.
UPDATE: Ramit Sethi now offers a new premium membership course, named Beyond Earn1k, which addresses my complaints about the Earn 1k program.
NOTE: The link to Amazon for Ramit’s book, I Will Teach You To Be Rich, is an affiliate link. I do not have any affiliation or financial gain associated with promoting the IWTYTBR blog, Scrooge Strategy, or Earn 1k.

Hi! I actually am a big fan of Ramit’s as well. I’ve read the book and applied automation to my money. However, after subscribing for the earn1k free course, I’m at a dilemma as to enroll or not. Could you tell me how this course has helped you?
Absolutely. The Earn1k course helped me identify a couple profitable ideas, figure out which one to pursue (my wife’s business), and has helped me to find and attract customers.
The focus is on freelancing, and a lot of the examples are for writers or tech people, usually selling to other businesses. My wife’s business doesn’t fit that mold so some of the information was not applicable.
Overall, I think it’s a great collection of information – much of it you cannot find anywhere else. However, there’s definitely a steep price tag on it so you have to think about how you will use it.
Use the Contact Me page and I’d be happy to answer any other questions.
